What to wear in New York City in the summer
Summer is such a fun time to visit New York City. But with warm temperatures during the day and sometimes cooler temperatures at night, it can be difficult to determine how to pack without overdoing it. I’ve laid out my formula for a perfect packing list for a trip to this amazing city- versatile, with options for casual and elevated looks.
tops– It’s crucial to have tops that can be layered in a few different ways. With a few solid color tanks, you can wear them when it’s hot, but can cover up with a light oxford or thicker sweater. A tank can easily be paired with trousers, sandals, and some gold jewelry for a chicer look. I love this red Mango knit top because it’s an elegant version of a tank top.

pants/shorts– A few pairs of lightweight pants and shorts will go far in versatility. Sticking with neutral colors will allow you to mix and match easily. Linen is a great option for material, and wide-leg fits will give the comfort and coolness you’ll want during the day.

rompers/dresses– Having a few extra pieces like a romper and dress can vary your wardrobe options. They also give you the opportunity to elevate your style with a completely different silhouette. It’s important to have at least one nice option when you visit New York City, as there are so many beautiful restaurants and shows to visit, and you’ll want to have something more elegant to throw on. This silk dress is beautiful as an elevated option. Pair that with a cardigan, and it’s a classy look that’s perfect for a night on the town! But you can also tie the oxford around your waist, put on some sneakers, and throw on a baseball hat and the outfit is now casual and trendy.

shoes– Sneakers are a must. A comfortable pair of Adidas or New Balance are great- easy on your feet and chic. A few pairs of sandals in neutral colors will go with any outfit and help elevate a look for a nicer outfit.

accessories– This is where you can really have fun and have greater options for your outfits. As most accessories are smaller, they are easier to pack, so you can do a little bit more in this area. A baseball cap is always practical. Gold jewelry makes any outfit look more elegant- some gold hoops, a bangle, maybe a few rings that can be mixed and matched with any look. And, of course, a cross-body bag is the perfect bag for daily excursions- comfortable and versatile.
